#155 - Behind the Mike - Matt Walker Part 2
First, I’d like to thank all the private messages from WINK members and subscribers who were ‘stoked’ about the first episode of my interview with Dr Matthew Walker (you know who you are).
Second, I’d like to say that Matt is a genuine nice guy, and I think a lot of that comes through in the podcasts I’ve done with him - that’s right - podcasts .. plural.
So let me endeavour to introduce you to the 2nd half of my interview with Matt about ‘Sleep Enhancement’.
Whilst the 1st half of the interview was free to listen to on Apple Podcasts app, the 2nd part is available to those who subscribe to the premium version of the Sleep Cycle app.
So perhaps that first thought going through your head was ‘you tricky bastard’.
Sure, I get it. That’s a normal response.
But like when I talk to my sleep clients about Cognitive Therapy, it’s always important to “Stop. Think. Do.”
That is, Stop the cycle of the intrusive thoughts by simply saying to yourself ‘Stop’.
Then the most important part - ‘Think’. Is this the only way to think about the situation?’
Sure I could guide you towards thoughts of blaming Steve Jobs for setting up generations of humans to want great stuff for free after he made the iTunes software free for both Mac and PC computers.
I could even ask how money comes into your household to pay for food on the table (see where I’m going with this?)
I could even tell you all the stuff you get for an entire year from the Sleep Cycle app to convince you. You wouldn’t just learn more about your sleep, but does your tracker playback your snores from the night? Or show you a map of the people in your area likely getting sick? Does your tracker have Alexander Skarsgård whispering in your ear as you drift off into neverland?
If your app does do a lot of these things, is it the one from Singapore, that’s been copying the Sleep Cycle app - but costs around 3 … times … more?
Sure - I could tell you in detail all of those things - but it’s only those folks who put in effort who will do the ‘Do’ part of ‘Stop. Think. Do’.
And in this case, the Do’ers will learn the story of ‘Sleep Enhancement’ and see how this interview ends between Prof MW and …
Prof MG
