#138 - Therapeutic vs Harmful Effects of Evening Bright Light

I’ve just published WINK’s new sleep course - Evening Bright Light Therapy.

That’s right, I’m now teaching people how to consume light before sleep.

Whilst I’ve known this was possible for decades - the current online environment means the internet is saturated with Sleep Tips saying — “Avoid bright light in the evening”.

In developing this course, I realise that understanding the effects of light on sleep, circadian rhythms - and dare I say ‘insomnia’ - is likely misunderstood by most people spruiking the benefits of avoiding light in the evening … yet ensuring you get light in the morning.

So this week I’d like to provide some education to WINK Members and Subscribers.

I’ve taken a 10-minute section out of our new Course, and given them the link to learn about:

  • some of the history about different light sources used for bright light therapy

  • the pros and cons of different light therapy devices

  • a major reason why you would never use a device’s screen to perform bright light therapy

  • a rare reason when you could use a screen to do bright light therapy (when all other options are closed)

Even if you’re interested in our new Evening Bright Light Therapy Course - please note that it rides on the back of our Treating Teen Sleep Problems Course …

Meaning, there’s content about Bright Light Therapy in the Teen Sleep course that is needed as well as the Evening Bright Light Therapy course - so that you can not only help people with circadian rhythm issues, but also jetlag and shiftwork.

And for those who work in pediatric sleep, our new course can also be used for the school kid that sometimes shows up with an inability to wake-up after the sun rises …

For now - enjoy the video … oh … you cannot see the video, right? Well, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again …
